A woman whose life has been accompanied by a cinematic score struggles to connect with people.

Lost in Sound is an absurdly whimsical film which will certainly relate to many artistic minds who often dream up their own cinematic score to their life. The film is a collaboration between filmmaker Adam Neustadter and musician James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle), who composed all of the music and served as an executive producer. The short stars Nora Zehetner (Creative Control, Brick) as a woman whose life has been accompanied by a cinematic score, which prevents her from connecting with people.

James and I have known each other for years, and have collaborated on music videos in the past which were great experiences for both of us. Lately he has been composing for film and television, so we started talking about making a music-driven short that I could direct and he could score. We developed this project together, and I wrote the script knowing that his music would not just be featured, but would be an essential part of the narrative. We knew that we needed a strong lead to carry the film, and I couldn’t be happier with Nora’s performance. She brought a lot of heart, but also a certain weight, to the role. Her performance compliments James’ compositions perfectly, and vice versa. My goal was to create something that felt both cinematic and intimate – a film that is stylized and fun to watch, but one where the viewer emotionally connects.

From music composition to story flow, Lost in Sound shines through its ‘feel good’ vibes brilliantly and charm-fully enthralled by Nora Zehetner, who certainly helps us get lost in the sounds together with her. A great experience film that stretches the boundaries of narrative and music videos, combining them with some humor and drama to create a one-of-a-kind film.
