With the Oscars looming around the corner, The Academy has announced this year’s nominees. While everyone has their eyes on The Best Picture nominees (American Hustle, Nebraska, Captain Philips, Philomena, Dallas Buyers Club, 12 Years a Slave, Gravity, The Wolf of Wall Street & Her), we will have a quick look at this year’s Short Film nominations.

The Academy has strict rules for selected shorts where they are not allowed to be posted anywhere online, which in my opinion is quite unfortunate. These films deserve to be seen by the entire population in these moments of high interest – not 2 years later when everyone forgets about them. In light of having the hard judgement calls for the film, we have the trailers to give us a nice glimpse of what these brilliant filmmakers have created. Here are this year’s nominations:

If you watched any of these shorts we want to hear what you think of them and if you think they have the change to take the honour this year. As for us, having only watched Mr. Hublot out of all the nominated films, we can say that its an extraordinary short and fully deserves its nomination, and possibly more.

Here are our picks based on the trailers:

Live Action: Helium
Animated: Mr. Hublot

Let us know your picks and congratulations to all nominees, and best of luck winning the real thing!
