Animal Behaviour

Dealing with what comes naturally isn’t easy, especially for animals.

In Animal Behaviour, the latest animated short from the Oscar®-winning team of Alison Snowden and David Fine (Bob’s Birthday), five animals meet regularly to discuss their inner angst in a group therapy session led by Dr. Clement, a canine psychotherapist.

Where to watch it:

The NFB is often very restrictive with releasing its films online, but you can catch ‘Animal Behaviour’ free on NFB.ca between Feb. 11 and 24.

BAO

by Domee Shi and Becky Neiman-Cobb – Pixar

In Disney•Pixar’s Bao, a Chinese mom who’s sad when her grown son leaves home gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life as a lively, giggly dumpling boy. Mom excitedly welcomes this new bundle of joy into her life, but Dumpling starts growing up fast, and Mom must face the bittersweet truth that nothing stays cute and small forever.

Late Afternoon

Young Sanjay, a first-generation Indian-American, is obsessed with television, cartoons and his superhero action figures. He is reluctant to spend time in daily prayers with his devout Hindu father, but a flight of imagination helps him develop a new perspective that he and his father can both embrace.

Emily is an elderly woman who lives between two states, the past and the present. She journeys into an inner world, reliving moments from her life. She searches for a connection within her fragmented memories.

Written and directed by Louise Bagnall, produced by Cartoon Saloon, Late Afternoon has won Best Animated Short at Tribeca Film Festival and has screened at more than 80 festivals worldwide. The film has been shortlisted for the Best Animation Short category at the 2019 Oscars.
The film was funded through the Frameworks short film scheme supported by Screen Ireland and RTÉ.

Weekend

“Weekends” is a film about a young boy shuffling between the homes of his recently divorced parents. Surreal, dream-like moments mix with the domestic realities of a broken up family in this hand-animated film set in 1980’s Toronto.

Detainment

by Vincent Lambe and Darren Mahon

Two ten year-old boys are detained by police under suspicion of abducting and murdering a toddler. A true story based on interview transcripts and records from the James Bulger case which shocked the world in 1993.

Fauve
