In 2017 I followed the staff and social workers of Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation as they navigated the streets of Hanoi, Vietnam, looking for kids in crisis. Whether through force or simply being born into dangerous situations, these kids are robbed of a future and thrown down into a life of poverty, violence and slavery.
To Blue Dragon, however, what happened in their past does not represent who they are now what they can become. By giving them opportunities to better their skills, go back to school, provide them with shelter and food and in the most dangerous situations rescue them from trafficking, Blue Dragon opens up new paths for the youth to pivot from their past and choose their own direction, even if it’s to just simply become a kid again.
