Under the brutal Khmer Rouge Regime, a man who dedicated his life to save people, faces a heartbreaking choice for the sake of his own survival.

Director’s Statement

Sons of April is a passion project directed by Robin Veret and produced by Florence Chea. Shot during 3 days in the suburb of Phnom Penh, it was an amazing experience that brought together a team of talented Khmer, Thai, Singaporean and French people.

Choosing the Khmer Rouge era in Cambodia as a backdrop of the story was a really hard choice at first. but we knew we wanted to tell a survival story based in Florence birth country. After meeting several survivors in Phnom Penh, Florence father is one of them, we discovered several gripping and heartbreaking stories. But most of them where already told in other very good films and documentary.

And one day we discovered through another testimony the story of this doctor and the choice he made to survive. We adapted the true story just by changing location, people name’s and chronology of the events to make sure we keep everybody anonymous but the thematic remains the same. In front of immense danger, nothing is black or white. Only survival counts and you need to act and think fast. With no distinction.
