A film built upon a small, simple moral idea of how satisfaction works. Created by talented Turkish animator Gökalp Gönen, Golden Shot (Altın Vuruş) is about enclosed rusty robots living in their individual small houses. They are kept alive by a small light that keeps them dreaming their only dream; hoping the sun will come take them to the sky someday. But one of the machines wants to see the sun itself and he has a plan for that.

There was this image where two houses on top of two hills looks at each other. I drew this long ago. After I found it between papers, I decided to make something out of it. Film, mostly focusing on how satisfaction works. Imagine that you have a big pile of chocolate. Would you rather eat it in one time, get full and satisfied but also get sick in the end. Or would you rather eat it piece by piece, day by day, having the pleasure in a certain amount and stay safe. Which is a better way to go to say ” I ate chocolate! ”

The impressive visual style embraces the rusty metallic surfaces to build a dark, cold and almost lifeless world. The clever premise idea then easily floats around the beautiful environment and its contrasted colors to create a strong and emotional animated film. Gökalp’s subtle camera movements gives the film that extra cinematic exploiting the virtual depth of field magnificently.
