Based on the video game Deus Ex Human Revolution, the film dives into the world of Adam Jensen

Everyone loves fan films, especially when their freakin’ awesome! Of course at this stage you will always get the haters and hardcore fans inching at every single inconsistency. But the truth is that the beauty in fan films is the liberty behind it.

Human Revolution is based on the video game Deus Ex Human Revolution, where it dives into the world of Adam Jensen, a Sarif industries’ security consultant that gets augmented after an incident that almost took his life away. Although the film doesn’t follow the narrative of the game exactly, it remains true to the theme while focusing on the relationship between Adam Jensen, and his ex girlfriend Megan Reed, a scientist hand picked by Sarif Industries to head Cybernetic Augmentations. Megan is taken by the Illuminati and is asked to assist them in turning on a mysterious device but she refuses to cooperate.

Director Moe Charif started thinking about this project years ago, when he was at the time shooting 30 second promos for TNT. The spots were exciting and a fun visual experience, but Charif felt like 30 seconds was not enough to get the full appreciation of what’s going on.

A few weeks after wrapping that project, we started thinking of shooting a short film that has good narrative, strong CGI and is longer than the 30 second spots we’ve been mostly working on.

The ambition was big, but Moe and his team felt confident in the tools and ideas they had.

I’m a big fan of the game Human Revolution. I love the world it’s set in. The character of Adam Jensen really intrigues me. So it was only natural to go in that direction. We felt like we can technically pull off the CGI so we decided to go for it. I wrote the script and shortly after, we reached out to Machinima and partnered up to make it happen.

The passion that they had for the game and characters clearly came through in this edgy and fierce short film, and even though the story was not followed precisely, I’m quite sure that studios like Eidos Montreal in this case cherish and encourage these fan films. In fact, this short just turned me into a new Deus Ex fan.

Here is the awesome behind the scenes.
