A creator’s puppets must struggle to carry on after their master is gone. A bizarrely moving animation from Supinfocom students.
Here’s a film we’ve been meaning to post for a very long time. ‘Overtime’ opened my eyes to the short film medium back in 2004, shortly before the days of YouTube and easily searchable films online. I was already making short films in those days, but inspired mostly by action shorts like Guy Ritchie‘s ‘Star‘ part of the BMW series ‘The Hire‘, the entire series was pretty awesomely inspiring by the way. But Overtime caught our attention in a different way; Imagination!
The film is a tribute to James Maury “Jim” Henson (1936-1990), the most widely known puppeteers in American history and creator of “The Muppets“.
I’ve seen crazy movies before, but this was the first time I’ve seen a such deep exploration of imagination in a short film (there were many before it of course, but it was the first time that one caught my eye). I lost track of the film when the site that was posting it suddenly shut down (can you imagine if YouTube or Vimeo ever shuts down??) and had slowly dissipated in my thoughts. Until just a few months ago when I was curiously thinking about the film’s I’ve seen that had given me such passion to the short. So the search began, barely remembering the storyline, I knew there was little Kermit looking puppets and a puppet master… But I found it! Overtime!
Enjoy this cinematic orchestra of puppetry.
